Restoring the panel
A backup plan with the panel's own state keeps the panel's database (accounts, settings, hotels, apps, sites, the activity log), its encryption keys and /etc/turbo-stack. This page is about putting those back.
What this does and doesn't bring back
The panel's state is its knowledge of the server — not the apps themselves. On a new server, restoring it gives you your accounts, settings and the description of every hotel; you then redeploy the apps and restore their data (databases, folders) from the same backups. To rebuild a hotel on a fresh server, the answers file together with your database and folder backups is usually quicker.
In one step
As the owner, open a snapshot that holds the panel's state (Backups → Restore…) and choose Restore the panel from this snapshot, then confirm with your second factor. The panel:
- unpacks the snapshot's state (database, keys, the SSH keys of SFTP targets and accounts);
- stops, keeps its current state aside (
/var/lib/turbo-stack-backups/restores/panel-before-restore-<time>/) and swaps in the restored one; - starts again — or, if it doesn't come up with the restored state (a snapshot from a newer version, say), puts the state from before back by itself.
Sign in again with the accounts as they were in that snapshot. The restore is in the activity log.
If the panel's database is gone and the panel no longer starts at all, install it again over the existing installation (install.sh), claim it with a temporary owner, add the backup target again with its repository password (so the existing repository is connected, not a new one created), and restore from there.
By hand
Restore… with The panel's state ticked only unpacks it, under /var/lib/turbo-stack-backups/restores/panel-state-<time>/. To put it in place yourself, on the server:
bash
R=/var/lib/turbo-stack-backups/restores/panel-state-<time>
sudo systemctl stop ts-panel
sudo cp "$R/var/lib/turbo-stack/backup/panel.db" /var/lib/turbo-stack/panel.db
sudo rm -f /var/lib/turbo-stack/panel.db-wal /var/lib/turbo-stack/panel.db-shm
sudo cp -r "$R/var/lib/turbo-stack/keys/." /var/lib/turbo-stack/keys/
sudo chown -R turbo-stack:turbo-stack /var/lib/turbo-stack
sudo systemctl start ts-panelThen sign in with your old owner account.
The keys matter: without them the panel can't decrypt the secrets in its database (database passwords, environment variables, backup passwords).
Files from /etc/turbo-stack
The snapshot also holds /etc/turbo-stack (under $R/etc/turbo-stack). Copy back only what you need — for example backup-keys/ for SFTP backup targets or sftp-keys/ for SFTP accounts (the one-step restore does this for you). Keep the new server's install.env and release-key.pem.
